A warm welcome to everyone! This is @gabrielabulisova and @markisa8, and we are hosting the @smithsonianmagazine feed for the week. For the past six years, we’ve been collaborating on projects that call attention to the negative impact of mass incarceration in the United States. More and more Americans are aware that we incarcerate more people per capita than any nation on earth, with devastating consequences for families and communities. One of our main focal points has been the impact on children, including Dajuan, pictured here in his home in Philadelphia. Like many children affected by incarceration, Dajaun was deeply troubled by his father’s absence and was acting out in school and at risk for his own encounters with the criminal justice system. In its Jan/Feb issue, Smithsonian Magazine published many of our photos of affected children. This week, we’ll share some of those stories and more. We’d like to say a big thank you to @donny_bahohr and @mollyarob for this opportunity. And we are pleased to report that Dajuan is doing really well now that his Dad is home and showering him with love and attention. But there’s so much more we need to do to end mass incarceration!
