Photo by @ljohnphoto | On the side of the only highway in Konso, Ethiopia, is a frequent gathering of women “scratching” for water from the sand of the once full Aroyo River. The women complain the sand dam stopped the underground flow they depend on for daily water supply but soon they will have clean and dependable water at a pump nearby. But for now it’s scratching and filling jerry cans, cup by cup.
