The Koger-Harris family lives in Capitol Heights, MD, just outside the nation’s capital. The three children, Isaiah, Demetri, and Dashawn, have lived without their mother Sherrie for a decade, as she served a long-term sentence at United States Penitentiary – Hazelton in Bruceton Mills, West Virginia. They have been cared for by their grandmother, Sandra, and their father, William, who suffers from frequent pain after a car collision and has been in and out of work and in and out of prison himself. As the oldest child, Isaiah has also stepped into the role of caring for his siblings. Here, he watches out for his younger half-brother as the two walk to the nearby Carmody Hills Elementary School.
